Prologue:
I barely had time to catch a glimpse of the deadly arrow that pointed directly at me. Although I was standing a good fifty meters away, I did not question that its aim would be precise. Barely hearing the chilling rush of air that signaled the lethal projectile’s release, I fell to the ground. The arrow had hit my shoulder. My daughter, Crown Princess Ani, still holding her crossbow, ran to my side.
